About

Barcode is an all-day café and brunch spot on Elli Street in Naxos Town, open from early morning until just before midnight every day of the week. With a 4.9 rating across more than a thousand reviews, it's one of the highest-rated cafés on the island and has been serving coffee and light meals for 17 years.

What to Expect

Barcode operates as a multi-function café: coffee shop from dawn, brunch and breakfast restaurant through midday, sandwich and ice cream counter in the afternoon, and dessert bar into the evening. The menu covers espresso drinks, Greek coffee, fresh juices, pastries from an in-house bakery, sweet and savory crêpes, sandwiches, salads, and a selection of ice cream and confections. The space works equally well for a quick morning espresso or a longer sit-down brunch.

The interior is modern and air-conditioned; there's also street-side seating on Elli, which runs parallel to the waterfront one block inland. Expect free Wi-Fi, making it popular with digital nomads and travelers checking ferry schedules.

How to Get There

From the Naxos Town port, walk south along the waterfront promenade for about 400 meters, then turn left (inland) onto Elli Street. Barcode is on your right within 50 meters. The walk takes under five minutes. If you're coming from the Old Town (Kastro), head downhill toward the water and turn onto Elli; Barcode is midway along the block.

Tips for Visiting

  • Go early for brunch: The café fills up between 10 AM and noon on weekends, especially in July and August. Arrive by 9:30 AM for a table without waiting.
  • Cash and card accepted: Most Greek cafés prefer cash for small orders, but Barcode takes cards.
  • Try the crêpes: Both sweet (Nutella, honey-walnut) and savory (ham-cheese, spinach-feta) are popular with regulars.
  • Late hours: If you need a caffeine fix or dessert after dinner, Barcode stays open until 11:55 PM daily — rare for a café on Naxos.
  • Avoid the midday sun on the terrace: The street-side tables have limited shade; opt for indoor seating between noon and 3 PM in summer.

The Menu

Breakfast runs from scrambled eggs and Greek yogurt with honey to French toast and full English plates. The brunch menu adds club sandwiches, Caesar salad, and omelettes. Coffee options span filter, espresso-based drinks (cappuccino, freddo espresso, freddo cappuccino), Greek coffee, and iced alternatives. The bakery counter includes croissants, Danish pastries, and traditional Greek sweets like galaktoboureko. Ice cream is available by the scoop or in sundaes, and there's a small confectionery selection for takeaway.

Prices are mid-range for Naxos Town: €3–5 for coffee, €6–10 for sandwiches or crêpes, €8–14 for brunch plates.

What's Nearby

Barcode sits one block from the Naxos Town waterfront, so you can combine a visit with a walk along the promenade or a swim at Agios Georgios Beach (700 meters south). The Old Town's labyrinth of shops and tavernas is a three-minute walk uphill. The Temple of Apollo (Portara) is 1.2 kilometers north on foot, about 15 minutes along the water.
