Akrogiali Snack Café

About
Akrogiali Snack Café is a family-run spot on the harbor beach of Apollonas, the fishing village at the northern tip of Naxos. Open daily from 9 AM to 11:30 PM, it's the kind of place where you stop for morning coffee and end up staying for lunch or a late dinner watching fishing boats come in.
What to Expect
The menu covers Greek café staples and taverna basics: grilled fish, souvlaki, mezze plates, salads, and snacks like tyropita and sandwiches. Coffee ranges from frappés to espresso drinks. Service is casual and the setting is beachfront — tables sit on the sand or the low terrace just above it, facing the small harbor and the surrounding cliffs. The vibe is laid-back local, not polished tourist. You'll see Greek families here alongside travelers who've made the drive north.
How to Get There
Apollonas is 50 km from Naxos Town, about an hour's drive on the coastal road via Moutsouna or the mountain road via Apiranthos. Akrogiali sits right on the waterfront along the main village road (Epar.Od. Apiranthou-Ormou Apollona). Park anywhere along the harbor — there's no formal lot, just pull over where you find space. If you're on foot in the village, walk toward the beach and you'll see the café on the right, directly facing the water.
Tips for Visiting
- Go for the fish. If the day's catch is in, the grilled options are your best bet — ask what came in that morning.
- Skip peak lunch hour (1–3 PM) in July and August if you want a table without a wait; late afternoon (4–6 PM) is quieter.
- Bring cash. Card acceptance isn't guaranteed in small Apollonas spots, though the café may take cards — confirm when you order.
- Combine with the Kouros. The giant unfinished marble statue is a 5-minute walk inland from the village center.
- Stay for sunset if you're here late. The western cliffs catch good light, and the terrace empties out after the day-trippers leave.
What's Nearby
Apollonas itself is a 10-minute stroll end to end. The main draw beyond Akrogiali is the Apollonas Kouros, an ancient 10-meter marble figure abandoned in a hillside quarry. The village beach is pebbly and narrow but swimmable in calm conditions — most people wade rather than swim. If you're driving the loop, the next stop south is Abram beach (20 minutes) or back inland to Apiranthos (30 minutes), the marble mountain village known for its Venetian towers and narrow lanes.
