About

Agia Anna Hotel sits in the coastal settlement of Agia Anna, on the western shore of Naxos roughly 8 km south of Naxos Town. The location puts guests within easy reach of the long sandy stretch that runs through Agia Anna and connects, almost without interruption, to the beaches of Plaka to the south and Agios Prokopios to the north.

The village itself is small and walkable, with a handful of tavernas, minimarkets, and watersports hire points spread along the seafront road. It draws a quieter crowd than the busier resort areas closer to town, which makes it a reasonable base for travelers who want beach access without the noise of a packed strip.

What to Expect

Agia Anna is a well-established address for beach-focused accommodation on Naxos. The surrounding settlement has the infrastructure you'd expect — places to eat within a short walk, basic supplies available locally, and the beach itself effectively on the doorstep. The coastline here is fine-grained sand with shallow, clear water that stays calm in most westerly winds, making it particularly suitable for families and less confident swimmers.

Beyond the beach, the area connects easily to the broader Naxos road network, so day trips to the island's interior — the marble villages of Apeiranthos, the Temple of Demeter near Sangri, or the Kouros statue at Melanes — are practical from this base.

How to Get There

From Naxos Town, Agia Anna is approximately a 15-minute drive south along the coastal road (follow signs toward Agios Prokopios and then Agia Anna). The KTEL bus service operates regular routes between Naxos Town and the southern beaches during the summer season, with a stop in Agia Anna — the journey takes around 20 minutes. On foot or by bicycle the coastal path is scenic but the full distance from town is better covered by transport. Parking is available along the road through the village, though spots fill quickly in high season. Arriving by rental car or scooter gives you the most flexibility for exploring beyond the beach.

Best Time to Visit

The Naxos beach season runs from late May through early October, with July and August bringing the most visitors and the reliable meltemi wind — which keeps temperatures bearable but can occasionally roughen the water. June and September offer a better balance: warm sea temperatures, fewer crowds, and easier access to local restaurants without the peak-season wait. Arriving mid-week rather than on weekends also makes a noticeable difference to how busy the beach feels.

Tips for Visiting

  • Book ahead for summer: Accommodation along the Agia Anna strip fills from late June onward; securing dates early is advisable, particularly for the last two weeks of July and all of August.
  • Rent transport: A scooter or small car opens up the Naxos interior and avoids dependence on the bus timetable for day trips.
  • Pack for the meltemi: The afternoon wind picks up strongly in July and August; a light layer is useful for evenings, and beach umbrellas can become difficult to manage.
  • Bring cash: Smaller establishments in Agia Anna may not accept card payment; the nearest ATMs are in Naxos Town or the larger resort of Agios Prokopios.
  • Explore north and south: The beach road links Agia Anna to both Agios Prokopios (quieter, dune-backed) and Plaka (wilder, less developed) — all walkable or a very short drive.

What's Nearby

Agios Prokopios beach begins just north of Agia Anna and is consistently ranked among the best beaches in the Cyclades, with Blue Flag status and organized sunbeds alongside wilder sections. Plaka extends south for several kilometres of largely undeveloped shoreline with a more informal atmosphere. The village of Vivlos (Tripodes), a short drive inland, has a cluster of authentic tavernas popular with locals. For a longer excursion, the Portara — the marble gateway of the unfinished Temple of Apollo on the islet of Palatia at Naxos Town port — is under 20 minutes by car and worth the trip at sunset.
