About

The Piraeus Bank ATM on Kamari's coastal road (Παραλιακή Οδός) is one of the more conveniently placed cash machines on Santorini's eastern coast. It sits on the main strip that runs parallel to Kamari's black-sand beach, putting it within easy reach of the tavernas, beach bars, and shops that line that stretch.

Kamari is one of Santorini's busiest beach resorts, and while card payments are widely accepted at larger establishments, smaller cafes, sunbed rentals, and local minibuses often prefer or require cash. Having this machine available around the clock means you don't need to plan a trip into Fira or Perissa just to top up your wallet.

Piraeus Bank is one of Greece's four major banks, and its ATMs accept the standard international card networks — Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, and cards on the Cirrus network. Foreign cards will typically be offered a dynamic currency conversion option at the screen; declining this and choosing to be charged in euros usually results in a better exchange rate through your home bank.

What to Expect

The machine is located on Παραλιακή Οδός, the beachfront road that is Kamari's main commercial artery. The street is well-lit and active most of the evening during the summer season, so using the ATM after dark is practical. During peak season — July and August — Kamari's strip stays busy well into the night, so the ATM area is rarely isolated.

As with most ATMs in Greek tourist areas, this machine will offer transaction menus in multiple languages. Withdrawal limits are set by your home bank, but Greek ATMs commonly dispense up to €600 per transaction depending on the issuing bank's rules. Note that Greek banks may charge a fixed fee per foreign-card withdrawal; check with your own bank before you travel to understand what you'll be charged on their end as well.

The machine is outdoors and street-facing, which is typical for Greek resort ATMs. In high summer the midday heat can make the screen harder to read in direct sun; early morning or evening visits are slightly more comfortable.

How to Get There

From Kamari beach itself, the ATM is directly accessible on foot — the beachfront road runs the full length of the resort, and the machine sits along this strip. If you're staying at a hotel inland from the beach, walk toward the sea and then follow Παραλιακή Οδός.

If arriving by car or scooter, street parking exists along and behind the Kamari strip, though spots fill quickly in July and August. The nearest bus stop is served by the Fira–Kamari KTEL route, which runs frequently during summer; the bus drops passengers at the main Kamari stop, from which the beachfront road is a short walk west.

Kamari is roughly 10 km southeast of Fira by road. Taxis from Fira are available but can be hard to book during peak hours — the Santorini taxi dispatch number is worth saving if you're not renting a vehicle.

Best Time to Visit

Because the ATM operates 24 hours a day every day of the week, timing is flexible. The practical advice is to withdraw cash before peak dining hours (roughly 8–10 pm in summer) when the strip is at its most crowded and you may feel rushed. Early morning — before the beach fills — is the calmest window.

During shoulder season (April–May and October), Kamari is noticeably quieter, and the ATM remains available even when some surrounding businesses have reduced their hours or closed for the off-season.

Tips for Visiting

  • Decline dynamic currency conversion. When the screen offers to charge your card in your home currency rather than euros, decline. Your home bank's rate is almost always more favorable.
  • Check your card's foreign transaction fees before you travel. Some travel-focused debit and credit cards waive ATM fees abroad; knowing this in advance helps you decide how much to withdraw at once.
  • Withdraw enough for smaller vendors. Beach sunbed operators, small souvlaki kiosks, and some local water-taxi operators along the Kamari area often prefer cash.
  • The strip is well-lit at night. Using the ATM after dark during summer is generally safe; the beachfront road has consistent foot traffic through late evening.
  • Keep a backup plan. There are additional ATMs in Kamari and in nearby Perissa (roughly 3 km south), so if this machine is temporarily out of service, you are not far from alternatives.
  • Greek ATMs can run out of cash on busy weekends. If you arrive on a Saturday afternoon in August and find the machine empty, the Piraeus Bank customer service number is +30 21 0328 8000.
  • Contactless and card payments are widely accepted in Kamari for sit-down restaurants and larger shops, so you may need less cash than you expect — but having some on hand is still worthwhile.
