How to Get Around Kasos by Bus (2026 Guide): Routes, Stops, Times & Fares

Kasos is the southernmost Dodecanese island, a quiet place of just over a thousand people between Karpathos and Crete, and it has one bus: a municipal minibus working out of the port town of Fry. The Kasos Municipal Bus (Δήμος Ηρωικής Νήσου Κάσου — the Municipality of the Heroic Island of Kasos) runs three route patterns over eight stops, fourteen times on a weekday and five times at the weekend. Small as that is, it reaches every village on the island.

The Kasos bus network at a glance

Fry is the hub, the capital and the ferry port, and it is the beginning and the end of every single run. This is the key to understanding the Kasos timetable: the buses do not work point to point, they work closed loops. A run leaves Fry, takes in a chain of villages, and comes back to Fry. There is one vehicle doing all of it.

The loops fall into two corridors. West of Fry the bus serves Agia Marina and Arvanitochori, with some runs continuing to Ammoua beach. East and south it serves Panagia and Poli. Both corridors take in Emporios, the old harbour just east of Fry, and the Iatreio, the island health centre, which is a named stop in its own right.

• Fry ↔ Agia Marina ↔ Arvanitochori (↔ Ammoua): the busiest pattern on the island by a distance, and the one for the west-side villages and Ammoua beach — route details.

• Fry ↔ Panagia ↔ Poli (↔ Emporios): the eastern loop, for the hill villages of Panagia and Poli and the old port at Emporios — route details.

What the timetable does and does not tell you

The municipality publishes its summer schedule as a short announcement rather than a grid, with two consequences worth knowing.

First, only the departure time from Fry is published for each run, followed by the chain of villages it visits. There are no arrival times for Agia Marina or Panagia, and no published time for the return leg — because the return leg is the same run continuing round to Fry. We have not invented intermediate times, and you should be wary of any site that quotes them.

Second, the order of the villages varies between runs on the same corridor. The 07:30 does Poli before Panagia, while the other eastern runs do Panagia first; one late-morning western run reaches Arvanitochori before Agia Marina and then Ammoua, while an early-afternoon one calls at Ammoua first. Read the stop order on our route pages as the usual sequence, not a per-run guarantee, and check the posted board before you plan a tight connection.

The upshot is reassuring: every run is a ring that ends where it started, so staying on board brings you back to Fry. Tell the driver where you are going when you board.

Weekdays versus weekends

The weekday service is the real one: fourteen runs, from an early 07:30 departure through to a last bus at 19:00, with the full-island circuit at 14:05 in the middle. The weekend is much thinner — five runs on a Saturday or Sunday, all bunched between 10:30 and 13:45. There is no early-morning and no evening bus at the weekend, so if you are on Kasos for a Saturday night, plan on walking or a taxi.

There is no bus to Kasos airport

Kasos has an airport, but the municipal timetable lists no airport stop on any of its runs. Do not plan a flight around catching a bus: arrange a transfer, a taxi or a lift with your accommodation. We would rather say so plainly than list a service nobody publishes.

Tickets and fares

Pay the driver when you board, in cash — carry small notes and coins. The municipality publishes no fare table, so we do not quote a price for Kasos; ask the driver rather than trusting a figure from a travel blog. Kasos tickets are not sold online through Greek Island Buses; where an operator does sell through us the price is the same as at the counter and you board with a QR code on your phone.

Season and where to check

This is the summer timetable, announced by the municipality and running from Monday 20 July 2026. The announcement gives a start date only and no end date, so we do not publish a "valid until" for Kasos, and no autumn or winter schedule has appeared yet.
