How to Get Around Alonissos by Bus (2026 Guide): Routes, Stops, Times & Fares

Alonissos runs a small but genuinely useful municipal bus: two routes, three published terminals and 24 departures in the current summer timetable, operated by Alonissos Municipal Bus (Δημοτική Συγκοινωνία Δήμου Αλοννήσου, the municipality’s own service). Twenty of those trips are the short climb from the port at Patitiri up to the Old Village, which is the journey almost every visitor makes at least once; the other four run up the east coast to Steni Vala. This guide covers what those two lines reach, the ticket rule that catches people out, and what the bus does not do.

The Alonissos bus network at a glance

Patitiri is the ferry port, the main town and the only hub: both routes begin and end there, at the stop beside the port parking area — the timetable identifies it by the shop next to it, the Mini Market Perasma. There is no cross-island service and no interchange anywhere else, so a trip from the Old Village to Steni Vala means coming back down to Patitiri first.

One honest caveat about stops. The municipality’s terminals-and-stops page has no published content, so the only confirmed stops are the three terminals: Patitiri, the Old Village and Steni Vala. Villages along the Steni Vala road — Votsi, Chrisi Milia, Kalamakia — appear in no official document, so we do not list them. If you want to get off part-way, tell the driver when you board.

Main Alonissos bus routes

Patitiri to the Old Village

The Old Village — Chora on most maps, Παλιό Χωριό on the timetable — sits on the ridge above the port, and the bus is the easy way up. The published outbound and return times are set fifteen minutes apart, which is a fair guide to the drive. The stop is at the entrance to the village rather than inside it, which is where you want to be dropped anyway: the lanes above are for walking.

Two things to plan around. First, there is a real gap in the middle of the day: the printed timetable has no Old Village departures between 13:30 and 19:00. That is the service as published, not a hole in our data, and it strands people who go up for lunch and expect to ride back at four. Second, the evening runs are what the line is really for — up for dinner with the view, down afterwards — so check the last departure in both directions before you set off.

Steni Vala and the National Marine Park

Alonissos lies inside the National Marine Park of Alonissos–Northern Sporades, Greece’s first marine park and the main refuge of the Mediterranean monk seal. The park is sea, so no bus goes into it; what the bus can do is put you at a harbour. Steni Vala, on the east coast, is that second harbour after Patitiri, and it gets four trips in the current timetable — enough for a planned outing, not enough to improvise. Its return times are printed half an hour after the outbound ones, so allow about that for the drive, and fix your return departure before you leave Patitiri.

Tickets and fares

Tickets are not sold on board. This is the single most important practical fact about the Alonissos bus, and the one that catches visitors: buy before you board, at the ticket points in Patitiri, the Old Village and Steni Vala. Alonissos Municipal Bus lists a standard fare of €1.80 and a reduced fare of €0.90 for large families, the unemployed and passengers with 67% disability, with children under 6 travelling free. The buses carry Wi-Fi. Alonissos tickets are not yet sold online through Greek Island Buses; where an operator does sell through us the price is identical to the counter and you board with a QR code on your phone.

Season, days and how long this timetable lasts

The service described here started on 4 July 2026 and the municipality prints it as valid until a newer one is issued — there is no end date, which also means it can be replaced without notice. The timetable does not state which days of the week it runs, and we hold it as running every day, so it is worth confirming locally before you rely on a Sunday departure.
